English as a Second Language

What is ESL?

ESL stands for English as a Second Language. It is designed to help students improve their English language skills. We utilize the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) to assess students based on 4 skills – Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. Our ESL subjects cover: Integrated ESL, Reading, Speaking and Writing to give students the opportunity to focus on areas where they need the most help with through the assistance of our qualified English instructors. Students enter the program after being placed at the appropriate ESL Proficiency Level, i.e., Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced level.

Why do I need ESL Certification?

The goal of Concordia International College’s ESL program is to elevate the English proficiency skills of our students regardless of their current language abilities. Our ESL Program will equip you with the necessary theory and skills to:

  • Help you cope with native English speakers and optimize your campus learning
  • Help non-native English speakers to improve their English skills and find productive work that require a good command of the English language
